Video: Flaco Escobar- Dominique
Guys out of New York’s Beast Coast movement (Pro Era, The Underachievers and Flatbush Zombies) have, in some ways, garnered a new interest in the 90′s style of rapping. Their emphasis on lyrics with boom-bap elements in production isn’t done in the ultra-condescending “real hip-hop” way which helps other artists who use the same formula. Flaco Escobar of Baltimore’s CCL$ rap collective is Beast Coast-esque and tends to select soul-sampling beats that best suit his methodical flow. His most recent track “Dominique”, presumably autobiographical, uses the same template and the video is shot by one of Baltimore’s best directors, Jason Johnson. Peep it above.
